'The European footballer of the year': Sounds great huh? Well, it is bloody great! It is just an alias to being the best footballer in the World. I say 'World' because most of the best footballers in the world play for clubs in Europe. The title surpasses the nationality of a footballer. One just needs to have played under UEFA registered club and of course needs to have made a mark in that year's club football. This year, very appropriately a Barca player has clinched it. Lionel Messi, the Argentine star has outclassed the much hyped Portugese, Christiano Ronaldo both on the football pitch as well as on paper now. From the very nominations of this year's Ballon D'or, there were little doubts about the possible winner. Messi's contribution was substantial in their journey towards the 'treble'. However, this was just a feather on the cap for Barca. We never have one star player, one playmaker in the team. Barca is really an example of a team: where everyone is important and holds equal value and skills. Therefore it is a time for celebration for the fans that the European footballer of the year wears the 'Blaugrana' when he perspires for his club.
